About Meghalaya

Meghalaya, meaning “the abode of clouds”, is one of the most beautiful states in Northeast India. Surrounded by rolling hills, waterfalls, caves, and lush green forests, Meghalaya tourism offers a refreshing escape into nature. The state is famous for its clean villages, unique culture, warm people, and incredible biodiversity. Meghalaya was carved out of Assam and became a full-fledged state in 1972. It is home to three main tribes – Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia – each with their own traditions and customs. Despite modernization, the tribal communities have preserved their ancient practices and matrilineal social system, making Meghalaya culturally unique. Meghalaya’s culture is tribal, colorful, and deeply rooted in nature. The people are known for their hospitality, music, dance, and eco-conscious lifestyle.
