About Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep, meaning “a hundred thousand islands”, is India’s smallest Union Territory and one of the country’s most exotic and untouched travel destinations. Located in the Arabian Sea, this tropical archipelago is famous for its turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches, rich marine life, and peaceful island culture. Lakshadweep has a long history linked to traders, seafarers, and explorers from Arabia, Africa, and southern India. The islands were part of the Cheraman Perumal kingdom, followed by rule under Tipu Sultan, and later the British. In 1956, it officially became a Union Territory of India. Despite modernization, the islands have preserved their unique traditions and slow-paced way of life. The islanders follow a simple, community-driven lifestyle deeply influenced by Islamic traditions. The people are mainly from the Malayali and Tamil Muslim communities, and their culture is shaped by the sea, religion, and nature.
